Best Podcasts for Architects

We love our fair share of self-help and mystery podcasts, but what are the best podcasts for architects?

Looking to refresh your playlist with the best podcasts for architects that offer inspiration, instruction, and maybe a little escape? Look no further than the list below, comprised of some of our favorite architecture and design shows from around the podcast universe.

The Business of Architecture

The Business of Architecture is perfect for big firm leaders to solopreneurs to students who dream of running their own practice someday.

Hosted by architect Enoch Bartlett Sears, the podcast focuses on helping architects create their dream architecture practice where you can design what you want, when you want, and get paid well for it. Sears interviews industry leaders who share their strategies, tips, and secrets for running fun, flexible, and profitable practices.

If you’re in the UK, make sure to check out The Business of Architecture UK edition with Rion Willard. We also recommend tuning in to Sears’ and Willard’s end of year episode that hilariously recaps all of the disgruntled mail they receive from listeners.

Similar to the Business of Architecture, EntreArchitect has created a successful niche in the small to medium firm architect audience.

Architect and media guru Mark LePage hosts the podcast which explores the business of architecture, firm leadership, and the everyday life of an architect. While mostly geared toward small to medium firms, Mark interviews professionals that cover a wide variety of topics, including firm growth, digital practice, and marketing.

Mark is also the founder of Gabl Media, a family of podcasts and resources for architects, including the excellent Practice Disrupted podcast where Evelyn Lee and Je’Nen Chastain discuss the shifting landscape of practice and the super helpful Build Your Brand podcast with Jeff Echols that equips architects with the strategies and tools for growth, regardless of how big their firm is.

If you’re looking to geek out on technology, then add TRXL to your playlist.

Architect Evan Troxel sits down with industry innovators who are creating or using technology to change the way architects work. Evan gets their origin stories and predictions for what the future of design technology looks like. Guests include thought leaders and AEC startup founders like Anthony Frausto-Robledo, AIA; George Valdes; and Bill Allen.

If Evan’s voice sounds familiar, you’ve also probably heard him on the Archispeak podcast, which he co-hosts with Cormac Phelan.

BIM Thoughts

Looking for a deeper dive into BIM? Try BIM Thoughts with BIM expert Bill Debevc and a handful of other BIM expert co-hosts.

The show features interviews with BIM professionals who share their projects, ideas, and pro techniques for working in BIM. Bill also hosts a wide range of panels, including the excellent Women in AEC Panel who share their experiences with BIM and working in the industry.

99% Invisible

Escape into the history and origin stories of everyday details that we’re usually too busy to notice. Until now.

We’re huge fans of host Roman Mars, who takes us on a weekly exploration of the process and power of design and architecture. Mars hosted the 2019 AIA Conference on Architecture and his expert storytelling will open your eyes to a wide range of design stories from department store mannequins to city planning.

If you’re new to 99% Invisible, you’re in luck, there are more than 400 episodes to lose yourself in.
