What's New in Layer: August 2022

See what's new in the latest release of Layer!

1. Adjustable sidenav

the lefthand navigation menu can now be resized

2. View 360 & Panoramic Photos

You can now view & navigate 360 photos that you’ve uploaded to your project. you’ve always been able to upload 360 & panoramic images to Layer, but we lacked support for viewing those images proper format.

3. Display drawing view reference thumbnails in Gallery View

just like any uploaded photo, thumbnails generated from PDF markups can now be displayed as thumbnails in gallery view

4. Saved section plane settings to model view

the model view section cut tool is a convenient way to view specific slices of a 3D model. These view settings can now be saved to the model view to share with your team.

5. Saved sort preferences between sessions

The sort options on your home page’s project list will now be saved in between browser sessions. For example, if you prefer to always sort the projects Created At date, you no longer need to enable that sort every time you visit the home page.

6. Improved Related Elements support in Document View

Related Element ****fields in Document View can now display its own associated Related Element field values.

7. User profile pictures

from the Manage Account dialog (Settings > Your Account) you can now upload a profile picture for display across the app.

8. Permissions changes for project collaborators

previously the free collaborators on a project (those who had either the ‘contributor’ or ‘viewer’ permissions) did not have access to create new elements in a project. We’ve updated this permissions structure so that collaborators with the ‘contributor’ permission can create elements as well.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed issue with file annotations not being cleaned up properly
  • Fixed issue with project company data set incorrectly after company creation
  • Fixed issue with Related Element field creation where sometimes duplicate sibling fields were created

How do I get this new release of Layer?

If you're already an awesome Layer user, just log in to your Layer account and refresh your window after login. You don't need to do anything if you have your iOS or Android apps set to update automatically. If not, just update Layer manually through the app store.
