With Layer’s new Document View, users will be able to export BIM data side-by-side with project data as beautiful, custom reports without relying on third-party layout software. Users can also use the intuitive WYSIWYG builder to format project and model data into any kind of document, including reports, presentations, and meeting minutes. Since Document View is built around Layer’s “flexibility first” premise, there are no hidden rules or fees to change the document after it’s made.
“We created the Layer App for busy teams who need to capture trustable project data accurately and efficiently. Document View joins our growing suite of mobile-friendly tools that make it easy to filter, sort, and customize how users access their project data alongside BIM,” says Layer CEO Zach Soflin, AIA. “Document View is also the first tool of its kind to allow users to build custom documents from both project and BIM data.”
At its core, Layer is a flexible database that makes it easy to capture a wide variety of data types like photos, blocks of text, pricing data, and BIM element data. With Document View, users simply create a custom-sized canvas on which to drag and drop editable containers that hold any type of data. Users only need to create one canvas and it will serve as the template for the rest of that category of data.
An additional bonus feature to Document View is the ability for users to get started quickly with pre-designed templates that can be easily customized. Layer provides pre-built templates for common page sizes and AEC workflows like Room Data Sheets, FF&E Specification Packages and Presentations, Field Reports, and Meeting Minutes, all of which are fully editable. Users can even create and save company-wide templates for their team’s future use.
“We really wanted to empower our users with easy-to-use reporting tools that don’t require a steep learning curve or a call to customer service,” adds Soflin. “When teams have tools that are flexible and encourage transparency and equal access to BIM, then everyone wins.”
