The new Formula Field in Layer makes it easy to calculate, summarize, and display data from related elements across your project—without writing code. Use formulas to automate how data appears in your views, including relationships across categories, model elements, and Revit-based quantities.
This update is ideal for architects, BIM managers, and interior designers who need to display consistent, logic-based values across linked data like rooms, products, model furniture, and departments.
Pull vendor details into your product spec
Automatically show vendor details such as website URLs or contact information by referencing related category data. Choose the field you want to display, and Layer will create a formula field that stays up to date with the relationship.
Count modeled furniture tied to a product
Use Layer’s spatial relationship fields to count the number of model elements associated with a given product. Create a formula field that counts all related model furniture instances and displays the result alongside your spec.
Summarize furniture quantities by room
Create formula fields that return a list of rooms and the quantity of each item in that room. Use the unique node in the formula editor to group items and show counts—ideal for early FF&E planning or room data sheet preparation.
Calculate cost by department using connected model data
Create multi-step formulas that trace through multiple categories, such as department → rooms → model furniture → product → unit cost. Sum the total cost of furniture per department using this chain of relationships and display formatted currency values in your department view.
Preview and format formula outputs
The new editor lets you preview formula outputs for any record and format the results based on value type. Display outputs as text, number, or currency with control over decimal places and unit display.
