The File field can store any kind of file such as .pdf, .jpeg, .png etc.
Common uses for Files fields are to store drawing pdfs, cut sheets, site photos, whatever your project may need.

When uploading Files, make sure you wait until the upload bar has completed to ensure that the file has successfully uploaded into Layer's servers. A thumbnail of the file will appear when the file has uploaded.

Until the file reaches our database, we will not be able to recover the file should anything happen.

Files Tab:
Files that are uploaded into the File field will also show in the Files tab of the Element Detail Pane and in the Files section on yours sidebar.

360 photos:
360 degree photos are supported in Layer. If a 360 photo is uploaded, Layer can detect this and enable a 360 photo viewer so you can pan around. Click the 3 dot button and select Enable 360 Viewer.

Reorder Files:
When placing files on Document View reports, sometimes you may want to change the order of the photos. Click the Reorder files button to the right of your field name. Click and drag the files to reorder. Remember to click DONE REORDERING to save your changes.

Edit File:
Files that are uploaded (apart from pdf’s loaded into Drawing View) have PDF editing capabilities when clicking Edit File. You can perform most functions available with other PDF editors. First, click to View your file, then click Edit File in the upper right hand corner. Any annotations placed on the file will be able to be seen when placing your document on Document Views.

Deleted Fields:
Sometimes users may want to delete the file/photo but accidentally delete the entire field itself. There will be a warning beforehand, so be sure to confirm what is being deleted. If the field is deleted, you will see that the photos can still be found in the Files tab on the element.

To restore the deleted field, go to the bottom of your sidebar to the Activity section and click Revert change on the action.

Document View:
Files fields can then be placed on Document Views for reporting purposes. When placing a file field on a document view, PDF files will display the first page only of the file. You can click the image in the exported report to open up the PDF in a new link. The PDF will also display at a preview resolution. JPG and PNG files can be enabled to print at a higher resolution.
