Shared Views let you share read-only portions of a Layer project with external collaborators, without granting them access to the full workspace. You can generate a secure link or embed the view on a website, while maintaining full control over which fields and data are visible.
How Shared Views Work
When you create a shared view, only the fields that are currently visible in your original view will appear in the shared version. This applies to both Gallery View and Table View. Fields that are hidden in your configuration will not be included in the shared version, even if they exist on the element.
Shared Views are always read-only. External users cannot edit data or access other parts of the project.
Steps to Share a View
Open the view you want to share (Gallery or Table).
Click the three-dot menu next to the view name.
Select Share View.
Toggle on Generate Shareable Link to create a unique URL.
Copy the link, open it in a new tab, or use the embed code.
You can also invite users directly via email by typing their address in the share dialog and clicking Invite.
Updating Shared Content
To change what fields are visible in a shared view:
Return to the original view in Layer.
Add or remove fields using the view configuration.
Changes will be reflected automatically in the shared view.
No need to resend the link or reconfigure permissions.
Embedding a Shared View
You can embed a shared view on a public or private webpage using an iframe embed code. Choose whether to include the Layer border, then copy and paste the generated code into your site.
Use Cases
Share a spec gallery with clients for feedback
Embed a filtered data table into a project website
Provide real-time site data to consultants or contractors without creating Layer accounts
