Focus mode works in conjunction with views in Layer to provide a streamlined interface for editing Element field data in the Element Detail Pane.

How it Works

Focus mode filters and sorts the fields visible in the Element Detail Pane to match the field configuration for the current Table View, Gallery View, or Form View. Edit the order and visibility of fields in those view types and use the toggle just below the Fields tab of the Element Detail Pane to enable Focus Mode.

Focus mode state is cached for specific views, so it will persist across app navigation and reloads for a consistent user experience.

Best Practices

  • Streamline Surveys: If you are routinely collecting data in Layer in categories with numerous fields not directly related to the survey or that don’t require data input when the survey is conducted, use a saved view that only contains the fields requiring input. Enable Focus Mode to conduct your survey and

  • Provide Better Sub-categorization: When working in categories with sets of fields specific to a given type of elements, Focus Mode can be used to provide a cleaner interface for element fields.
