Session 7 of the Layer Maker Course

This session covers Layer's permission system at two levels: inside a single project, and across a company that may have many projects, many people, and external collaborators on each one.

By the end of the hour, you'll know how to set roles, scope access to specific fields or categories, bring in consultants and contractors without giving away the full project, and audit who did what.

What we'll cover

  • Project-level roles (Owner, Editor, Viewer, Field Tech) and what each can do

  • Category-level and field-level permissions: hiding cost, salary, or sensitive condition data from some users

  • View-level access: read-only for one group, editable for another

  • Company-level access controls and team groupings

  • Inviting external collaborators (consultants, contractors, owners' reps) for time-bounded access

  • The audit log: who changed which field on which element, and when

Who it's for

  • BIM managers and project leaders setting up team access on new projects

  • IT and operations staff rolling Layer out across multiple offices or teams

  • Project Architects coordinating with consultants who need scoped access
