Session 9 of the Layer Maker Course

This session covers Templates, the way to package up a complete Layer setup (categories, fields, views, automations, document layouts) and apply it to a new project in a few clicks.

By the end of the hour, you'll know how to capture an existing project as a template, apply that template to a new project, and manage versions across your firm so that everyone starts from the same baseline.

What we'll cover

  • What a Layer template captures, and what it doesn't

  • Creating a template from an existing project that already has the structure you want

  • Applying a template to a new project, with and without sample data

  • Managing template versions: when to publish a new version vs. when to fork

  • The Layer template gallery, and how firms use it for company-wide standards

  • How Templates relate to Models (covered in Session 4)

  • Patterns from real firms: RDS template, FF&E template, condition-assessment template, building-survey template

Who it's for

  • BIM managers and template owners responsible for company standards

  • Project Architects who set up many similar projects each year

  • Operations staff rolling Layer out across multiple offices
