Session 8 of the Layer Maker Course
This session covers Automations, Layer's trigger-and-action engine for keeping project data in sync without manual work. If you've ever wished a field would update itself when a related field changes, or that someone would be notified the moment a condition score drops below a threshold, this is the session for you.
By the end of the hour, you'll know how to design an automation, debug one that isn't firing, and recognize the patterns that show up on most projects.

What we'll cover
The trigger-and-action model, and how it differs from formulas
Common triggers: element created, field changed, status updated, element imported
Common actions: update a field, notify a user, create a new element, call a webhook, send an email
Conditional logic: firing the action only when the field value matches certain criteria
Multi-step automations, and how to keep them readable
Patterns from real projects: auto-numbering, status routing, FF&E approval flow, condition-score escalation
Debugging when an automation isn't firing
Who it's for
Project leads who want to remove repetitive work from their team's day
BIM managers building project templates for company-wide reuse
Operations staff connecting Layer to email, Slack, or other internal tools
